Mac's Custom Wheel Nets—When Safety Can't be Left to Chance
Wheel nets (also called "tire bonnets", "tire baskets" or "tire nets") offer unique advantages over traditional tie-down straps. Wheel nets work by locking down the tires, providing following advantages:
The vehicle's suspension continues to work as designed, smoothly absorbing the bumps of the road.
Wheel nets are not subject to loosening that can occur with conventional tie downs due to changes the suspension due to temparature or other variables.
Does not compress the vehicle's suspension for prolonged periods, elevating pressure on the seals.
Distributes the vehicle load across 8 attach points, versus 4 when using a conventional tie-down configuration.
Premium Wheel Nets Start with Premium Materials
We use only premium polyester webbing, for superior protection against abrasion, UV, water and mildew.
Each wheel net tie down is constructed using 2" wide 12,000lb capacity webbing and 10,000lb capacity hardware. Mac's uses only premium polyester webbing, rather than nylon webbing, for superior abrasion resistance, UV protection and water resistance. It is also better at resisting mildew. Your wheel nets will last longer, with consistent performance and reliable safety.
But webbing is only as strong the stitching that forms the net. That's why we hand sew each connection with the industry's highest stitch count. The result is a wheel net assembly that provides 10,000lb Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS), suitable for even very heavy vehicles.
Patented Easy-Release Ratchet
Recent design changes to our ratchet handles make them better than ever! The strap mandrel is now free-wheeling, eliminating any "stickiness" common when adjusting most other ratchets.
The one piece handle and addition of mandrel caps makes this handle 40% more rigid and keeps debris out of the moving parts.
Tailored Attachment Routing
Standard 2-Point Wheel Net Configuration
Our standard wheel net configuration consists of two legs that pull down from the net and directly connect to the hard points of your trailer. One leg includes our patented Easy Release Ratchet, while the other leg includes an adjustment buckle, for fine tuning the assembly.
This method is recommended for open wheel vehicles or when there is ample wheel well clearance to allow the wheel net legs to attach to the trailer between 6" and 8" horizontally away from the tire.
3-Point Wheel Net Configuration
This option is recommended for vehicles with low profiles, tight wheel wells or when limited side access makes ratchet operation difficult or risks hardware-to-body contact. The ratchet assembly is moved out from under the vehicle's body. The strap of the adjustable leg is then directed along the trailer bed under the vehicle, where it is then redirected through an idler and up to the wheel net basket.
Tire Height. To measure the height of your vehicle's tire, simply measure from the ground to the top-most portion of the tire, in inches, as shown below.
Tire Width. Measure the width of the tire at it's widest point, as shown below. This will likely be the sidewall. Please note that you will want to measure the actual width of the tire, rather than using the dimensions embossed on the side of the tire.
Vehicle Constraints. Give us an understanding of the room available around the tires to route the nets and straps:
Wheel well clearance. Is it an open wheel or closed wheel vehicle? Is there minimal space between the tire and the wheel well? Does the wheel well closely follow the curvature of the tire?
Ground clearance. Is there sufficient clearance under the vehicle to allow the operation of a ratchet?
Trailer Constraints. Give us an understanding of how the vehicle will be loaded and secured.
Trailer Type. Is it an open or closed trailer?
Attachment Points. If there are existing anchor points, such as a track system, note the location in relation to where the wheels of the vehicle will rest.
