At Mac's, one of the reasons why we stand so confidently behind the quality and strength of our products is the testimony of the people who use them. One such gentleman, who borrowed his friend's Mac's straps before a trip, experienced the strength of our straps first hand when he was in a serious accident on the way to his destination.
Lester gave us permission to share his story, and we are relieved to report that he and his family are ok despite how jarring the accident was.
"On November 20th, my wife, daughter, and I set out for Oliver Springs, Tennessee. We had been planning for months to attend the Great American Crawl at Windrock Park with our good friend, Damian Randall, from whom we had borrowed the straps for the trip. We decided to tow the Jeep as a safety precaution and in case something broke while wheeling that weekend. My wife and daughter followed behind in our truck.
Everything was going exceptionally well until we passed through Ellijay, Georgia. On the west side of the city on SR-282, a driver in oncoming traffic swerved to avoid a UPS truck and lost control. The Dodge Ram 1500 SLT crossed two lanes of oncoming traffic and then entered my lane. The entire event happened in milliseconds. There was nowhere for me to go—on my right were only a soft shoulder and a guardrail. The Dodge completely blocked my lane, and I struck the vehicle on its passenger side.
The impact was extremely violent. My truck was deflected into the guardrail, while the Dodge spun around. Our trailer sheared off the hitch and then struck the Dodge, knocking it back across the roadway into oncoming traffic. My truck slid along the guardrail before finally coming to rest with the Jeep and trailer directly behind me.
The Jeep was secured with four of your Mac Straps. Only one strap—the front driver’s side—snapped completely from the collision with the Dodge. Despite that, the Jeep never moved from its original position.
Once our jeep is repaired and this is all behind us. I’ll be ordering my own set of Mac Straps. Like I mentioned before. They will be the only straps I’ll ever use."
